DIY Accounting Payroll Software Questions and Answers

15 Aug

HMRC will advise the new tax code change from 543 to 603 which was announced in May 2008 and the date the new tax code to be applied which is expected to be September 2008. The amended tax code is entered as a new tax code on the employee details tax amendments section of the payroll file and the tax reduction is then automated at the date the new tax code is applied. The income tax deduction calculated by the DIY Accounting payroll package is different to the inland revenue CD Rom.

Small differences can occur because the DIY Accounting payroll system has in the past used the revenue manual tax tables whereas the inland revenue employers CD Rom uses a percentage calculation. In fact the manual tables jump in pounds and tax tables can increase by four pounds between different look up rates which can create small differences.

In the current financial year many of the financial income tax and national insurance calculations have been changed in the DIY Accounting payroll calculations to a mathematical percentage basis. Differences can still occur where the subject of the calculation is rounded to ignore the pence.

All these differences are minor and immaterial and adjust themselves since tax is calculated on a cumulative basis Employee gross pay was entered and no national insurance was calculated.

The national insurance table applied is shown in the column to the left of the employees name on the payroll sheet and you will probably see the letter C when because this employee is of working age and not a second employment the national insurance table letter should be A. Check the date for both for this employee which may have been omitted or entered wrongly. Income deducted for my employee who is on a normal tax code was much higher than normal.

The tax code column to the left of the employees name on the payroll sheet may appear as zero which should show the tax code. To resolve the tax code check the employee starting date has been entered and the numerical value of the tax code in the employees details and the date that tax code should be applied. When I try to enter wages on the payslips the sheet comes up protected

No entries are required to the payslips file. All entries are automated from the payroll file and the protection prevents corruption of the formulae in the payslip file. The entry on the payslip file can be changed by entering the required gross pay on the payroll workbook and the payslip will automatically update itself from there as part of the paye system.. I cannot see any tabs at the bottom of the payroll software workbook.

After entering the employee details navigate to the month in which you wish to enter gross pay by clicking the tab buttons at the bottom of the excel spreadsheet. If you do not see any tabs at the bottom of the sheet you may not be viewing the full sheet. Click the square box at the top of the menu bar to view the full sheet and the tabs should then be visible. When I open the payslips file I receive an error message saying read only, un repairable error has occurred.

This is likely to have been an interruption during the download process that has corrupted the payslip file. Download the payslip workbook again direct from the confirmation email sent to you after purchase. We bought the up to 20 employee payroll package and now have 23 employees.

Make a second copy of the payroll software, saved into a separate folder and split the payroll into 2. Perhaps use one package for one department and the other package for a different department or use one for existing employees and the other for new starters

Do I purchase a new payroll software package each financial year or can the payroll software be updated for more than one year paye purposes

The payroll software include that years tax rules to enable the packages to automate the production of that years tax returns. Each year has new tax rules embedded and being on excel rather than a database then it is necessary to purchase a new package each year. Does the payroll software automatically generate the amount payable to the inland revenue each month.

The payroll package automatically calculates the income tax and national insurance and collects the information on a paye payments schedule so you know exactly how much to pay each month. The paye calculations also complete all the revenue forms including the P35 annual employers return which is required when you file the paye information with the revenue at the end of the financial year. The payslip workbook is not automatically updating from the payroll.

The payslip updates automatically and there are no calculations on the payslip file or links out of that file. The most likely cause is that the payslip file was renamed and has broken the links from the payroll file. If you have saved the file after breaking the links by renaming the solution is to download the payslips file again without changing the name

IPFs in Kernel32.dll

13 Aug

HTML clipboard

Kernel32.dll is the Windows kernel file that handles I/O operations, interrupts, and memory management functions. When you start a Windows system, operating system loads this 32-bit file in protected memory space so that no other application can take that space over. On occasion, you receive IPF (Invalid Page Fault) in Kernel32.dll file. Such errors usually occur when one or more programs attempt to use protected memory space (in RAM) of Kernel32.dll. In case of single application causing it, it needs to be reinstalled. However, if you observe this problem with various files and applications, the damage is possibly occurred due to corrupt hardware, registry, hard disk, swap file etc. When your hard disk is damaged, data loss occurs and to restore complete information, you should use your recent data backup. But if data backup suffers issues like damage or incompleteness, or no data backup is available, you need to use data recovery applications.

As a practical example, while using a Microsoft Office program, you might receive the below error message:

‘Program_ name’ caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll

Here, ‘Program_name’ refers to the name of MS application you are using.

Cause

IPFs usually occur when an application passes some data erroneously and Windows fails to interpret it. Kernel32.dll IPFs occur due to any of these causes:

Problematic system issues like buffer commits, write-behind caching, 32-bit protect-mode disk drivers etc. You are reading from a CD-ROM drive Windows registry corruption Excess of temporary files Damaged swap file Corrupt custom profile Enhanced BIOS features are turned on Application issues Outdated or incompatible software Virus infection Hardware issues Windows installation corruption File system corruption or fragmentation

Solution

To resolve these issues, apply these methods:

Try starting your Windows system in Safe mode and disable synchronous buffer commits, write-behind caching, 32-bit protect-mode disk drivers, and protect-mode hard disk interrupt handling features. Turn off CD-ROM drive cache. Verify if Windows registry is not damaged. If it is, restore from backup or reinstall Windows Delete temporary files, if any. If Windows swap file (Win386.swp) is damaged, recreate it and delete the damaged. Try recreating custom profile, if damaged Make sure that no enhanced BIOS features are turned on If problem is limited to a single application, reinstall it. Find and remove all outdated and incompatible utilities. Scan your system for viruses Check the system for incompatible or damaged hardware and remove or replace them Reinstall Windows and restore lost data from backup Run chkdsk to repair file system corruption and Disk Defragmenter utility to defragment the hard disk. If problem persists, reformat the hard drive and restore from backup. In case of any backup issues, use hard disk recovery applications. These Data Recovery applications are safe tools to recover and restore lost information.

Resolving ?IO1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED? Error Message in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 and 2000

11 Aug

HTML clipboard

A STOP error message at the startup of Windows operating system makes your operating system unbootable and data inaccessible. Few main reasons for the occurrence of the STOP error message can be file system damage, MBR (Master Boot Record) corruption, application or utility program errors, virus infection and more. After the occurrence of a STOP error message, you need to restore the data from an up-to-date backup to get back all your data files. However, in case of absence of an updated backup, you need to use advanced file recovery software to recover the data.

Consider a practical scenario, where you encounter the below error message when you attempt to start a Windows 2000 Server based server system:

“STOP: 0×00000069 (0×00000000, 0×00000001, 0×00000002, 0×00000003)
IO1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED”

The four parameters in the above error message differ with computer’s configuration.

Data saved in the hard drive becomes inaccessible after you encounter the above error message.

Cause:

The root cause for the occurrence of the above STOP error message is removing the Computer Associates ARCserve 2000 Backup program from your system by using Add/Remove Programs (Start > Run > appwiz.cpl).

Resolution:

To resolve the above error and access the data, you will need to perform an in-place upgrade of Windows 2000 Server operating system. To do so, you need to follow these steps:

Insert the Windows 2000 Server CD in your system’s optical drive like a CD-ROM drive. Then start your system and press a key on the keyboard when you receive the prompt to boot from the CD. In Windows 2000 Server Setup, press the ENTER key, when you get the following option: To set up Windows 2000 now, Press ENTER Next, Press F8 to Accept the License Agreement. Windows Setup searches for the hard drive for any earlier installations of Windows 2000 Server. Use the arrow keys to choose Windows 2000 Server installation that does not start, and then press R to select the repair option. Follow the commands in Windows 2000 Server Setup for comprehensive repair of existing Windows 2000 installation. When the Setup completes, remove the Windows 2000 Server CD from the optical drive. Restart your system.

However, if you encounter the same error message after restarting your system, the best option is to reinstall Windows 2000 Server operating system. A clean reinstall of Windows will erase all the critical server data from the selected hard drive partition. For complete recovery of lost the lost data from a formatted hard drive partition, you need to use powerful partition recovery software. Such Partition Recovery applications use advanced scanning mechanisms for complete recovery of the lost data. With highly graphical and interactive user interface and automated recovery procedure, these recovery applications work as user-friendly recovery tools.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is a powerful and reliable file recovery tool. The software recovers lost files from corrupted, deleted, formatted or lost hard drive partitions and volumes. It natively supports 185 diverse file types that can be further extended. The software is compatible with FAT16, FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file systems. Performing Successful Data Recovery for Computers

09 Aug

If you have work files, private financial information or bookkeeping stored on your computer, this could be the most important article that you will ever read. As with any electronic device, glitches can occur without warning and, when it comes to computers, they can often result in the loss of important files. But, what if there was some way to recover the data that you thought was lost? For many, this theory is music to your ears. The good news is, however, that it’s not a theory because your computer may have an excellent data recovery capability that you didn’t even know about.

The first and most reliable way to ensure data recovery is to make a back-up copy of your file(s) and store them onto a CD or another location in your computer. In some cases, you may even prefer to store a back-up file on a different computer. This will help greatly in the event that your original file becomes corrupted or is missing.

If you are operating your computer using Microsoft Windows XP, you may use the System Restore feature to undo harmful changes to your computer and restore its settings and performance. System Restore returns your computer to an earlier time (called a restore point) without causing you to lose recent work, such as saved documents, e-mail or history and favorites lists. As an added benefit, any changes that System Restore makes to your computer are completely reversible. You may access this feature by clicking on Programs, then Accessories and choosing the System Restore feature. This will work as an effective data recovery method for most computer users.

If you experience problems with your startup screen, you may be able to restart the system in Safe Mode. This will allow for you to make some changes and access several features in an effort to find the problem. In Safe Mode, you will only have access to basic files and drivers, but will not be able to logon to the internet.

If you are still experiencing difficulty with data recovery, you may find success with inserting the appropriate Restore/System CD that came with your computer. When prompted, you can choose to repair the system without affecting any data or software programs. To do so, restart the computer with the CD inside and press R to start the Recovery Console. From there, you can access the drives on your computer and make any needed changes. This approach is effective if the computer is experiencing a problem with startup or is not working properly and no other remedy will work.

If you are experiencing problems that none of the aforementioned methods will correct, your last resort may be to use the Windows Installation CD, which will reinstall the operating system to it’s original configuration. This will erase all files, including data files, which means the only way to have a successful data recovery using this method is if you have saved back-up copies that you can access via CD-Rom or another computer and transfer them onto the reinstalled system.

In conclusion, the most successful data recovery will come from back-up copies and/or being able to use the Repair feature without affecting current files or programs. In some cases, the manufacturer of the computer may be able to recommend additional steps for data recovery, but the most common ones are outlined above.
